SmartShield by Centurion Technologies

Here are few tips to aid you with SmartShield by Centurion Technologies for Microsoft Windows.

Windows Keyboard Shortcuts
At times, the notification is hidden from the Microsoft Windows taskbar. To launch the Configure window so you can make changes on the computer, carefully press the CTRL + ALT + F10 keys and release then wait at least five (5) seconds for the Protection Configure window to appear. When the Configure window appears, you can select UNPROTECT so that you can make the necessary changes to the protected computer or PROTECT to restrict changes.

Protect & Unprotect Passwords
The password necessary to PROTECT and to UNPROTECT SmartShield is the same to make things simple. If you do not know the password, you will have to contact the Support department in Information Technology that manages that computer. Often, SmartShield is used in an environment (libraries, classrooms, etc.) where the computer will be used by many users so you may find out that a specific group (ie. Academic IT Staff) in the IT Department will be supporting this equipment while computers used by the staff (librarians, professors, teachers, etc.) are managed by the IT Department.

Status Icon
The status icon is in the shape of a hexagon (stop sign) on the Windows taskbar. When disabled, the hexagon shows RED and when enabled, will show GREEN. Be warned that SmartShield can disable itself if there is a license issue or has trouble contacting the license server or will stay enabled but flash the entire computer monitor RED every few seconds (not to be confused with LCD Conditioning) which can be very annoying to those trying to use the computer.
