Host Name on Routers

The host name on routers is one the the most important information to know as an IT Technician or even an Internet user. Normally, you can access a router web interface that is on your network by visiting http://192.168.X.X or http://10.0.X.X (a reserved static IP Address known as the GATEWAY) but unfortunately, the information can be changed and sometimes without your permission when there is a potential for an IP Address conflict on the network as seen below.

Important Update

To avoid a conflict with your Internet Service Provider, your router’s IP address has been updated to 172.16.0.1.

You must now update the IP addresses in your router’s configuration settings for each relevant service, such as port forwarding and IP address reservation.

If you no longer have the information posted above or can not access the router because it was changed by someone else, you could visit the Command Prompt and let IPCONFIG list the results to get the new GATEWAY information. Please note that if you are on WiFi, you could receive incorrect info if AP Isolation is being used.

If the Command Prompt is disabled due to Local or Global Policy, try these links instead to regain access to the router.
