Missing Re-install Now Button

Thursday, May 8, 2003 Articles, Tips Comments Off on Missing Re-install Now Button

If you have a missing Re-Install Now button in your WordPress installation and has tried to find a solution but turned up blank, try using the link below (with changes of your actual website) to get it to work once more. Please note that later versions of WordPress will show “The link you followed has expired.” if you attempt to use this workaround.

Why (see updated notes below) was the re-install button missing? That I have not figured out as of yet but since I have a backup of my server settings, I will go back and see what the cause was and make sure it does not happen again to my website projects running WordPress.

Update: My Server was running out of disk space. As I mentioned above, I backup ALL my server settings and data daily and it ate up free space on the webserver. To prevent this going forward, I am downloading the backups weekly for safekeeping then encrypt them before uploading to free online storage since some of the info is sensitive. Another option (which is costly) is to upgrade the hosting plan to one that has additional storage or make fewer backups which is risky. Hopefully, future versions of WordPress will not have this issue but on the bright side. it does warn you of an issue (low space) that you were unaware of due to normal backups or hackers getting into your site and is storing files for unsuspecting victims to access from electronic mail.
