Block Ads in Crackle for Android

Crackle for Android is a very useful app on the Android Market. It is free to users (as it is advertisement supported) and doesn’t force you to watch better quality at a price. Unfortunately, the app now has full-page surveys that are extremely annoying. Fortunately, if you have a Android device that has been rooted, you can block those annoying surveys and block ads in Crackle for Android by using AdAway along with a hosts file or simply find the hostnames to add to the Your Lists section under Black in the AdAway app.

Please note that you were limited to versions before Marshmallow due to the host file not being editable by AdAway but if you temporarily set the folder’s permission to 777, AdAway will be able to create the Symlink and update the host file. Newer versions of AdAway will fix this.

Once set, movies and shows in the app will play without interruption by any ads or commercials on your Android as long as you do not cast it to Chromecast from the app. If you try to play through Crackle app, the ads or commercials will appear on the screen as the movies and shows are not filtered through your rooted Android device and would require you to block at the router level for all advertising networks as the Chromecast has access to your Wi-Fi credentials and is pulling the information from the Internet directly without your filters.
