Drivers for HP LaserJet CP4525

Thursday, September 25, 2014 Articles, Tips Comments Off on Drivers for HP LaserJet CP4525

I am pleased to report that HP has done a good job of keeping up with Windows drivers for HP LaserJet CP4525 printers. The only problem is, Technical Support and users of the printer may have a difficult time setting up the printer depending on the connection method and Operating System.

Ethernet Cable (Network Printer via IP Address)
-Windows XP (Works; Stable)
-Windows Vista (Works; Stable)
-Windows 7 (Works; Stable)
-Windows 8 (Works; Stable)
-Windows 8.1 (Works; Stable)
-Windows 10 (Works; Stable)

USB Cable (Local Printer via Virtual Port)
-Windows XP (Works; Stable)
-Windows Vista (Works; Stable)
-Windows 7 (Works; Stable)
-Windows 8 (Not Supported)
-Windows 8.1 (Not Supported)
-Windows 10 (Works; Not Stable)

This printer works very well as a network printer (printing via an IP Address) or a shared printer (printing via a server or another computer) but as soon as you try to use it as a local printer (printing via USB cable), this is where we will experience issues. Sadly, Microsoft says it’s HP’s fault, and HP, in turn, says it’s Microsoft’s fault that the printer does not work as it should so don’t expect a fix anytime soon.

Once an issue arises when printing via the USB Cable, instead of using PCL5 or PCL6 drivers on Windows 8 or Windows 10, temporarily try using Universal Print Drivers (UPD) from HP’s website as often this will solve the printing and connection problem. Keep in mind, my test reveals that it will print for a few days or even weeks and break on a Windows Update or when the print spooler refuses to clear but will at least give you the chance of temporary use while you look at your networking options.
