Lines While Printing and Scanning

Are you seeing lines while printing and scanning on an HP All-In-One Printer? I have encountered this issue numerous times and I can use my experience to assist you.

Possible Causes
* Debris (liquid paper, marker, etc) is on the glass
* Ink cartridge is leaking
* Needs calibration and maintenance.

Printing Troubleshooting Tips

One Sided Print
Open up a text editor (such as Microsoft Word) and then type the word FRONT and then print it to the affected printer. Does the print job come out with the lines still showing on the side where the text is written on the page? If so, you may have an issue with the ink system which needs further investigation.

Two Sided Print
For the two-sided print, use your text editor (such as Microsoft Word) and add FRONT to page one and BACK on the second page. When you print the document, remember to select double-sided. If both sides come out dirty or with lines, you have confirmed the ink is the culprit. For the front of the page having lines and the back of the page being clear, you have just confirmed that the device needs to be calibrated (by pulling the power cord) and cleaned since maintenance is often overlooked.

Scanning Troubleshooting Tips

One Sided Scan/Copy
If you are doing a one-sided scan using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) or the Flatbed and see lines in your preview or printout, you will need to make sure that the device is on and then pull the power cord out from the rear of the device for at least 15 seconds. When you reconnect the power, it will attempt to recalibrate itself so make sure the flatbed and ADF are empty before reconnecting.

Two Sided Scan/Copy
If you are doing a two-sided scan using the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) and see lines in your preview or print out on the FRONT page only, you will need to make sure that the device is on and then pull the power cord out from the rear of the device for at least 15 seconds. When you reconnect the power, it will attempt to recalibrate itself so make sure the flatbed and ADF are empty before reconnecting.
