Are you planning on installing new software on your computer with Windows as the Operating System and need to determine the bit version? If so, you can identify whether that computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system by simply following the link to microsoft.com from that computer and scroll down to the ‘Automatic version detection results’ on the page where you will see an example below.

You are currently using a 64-bit operating system.
